Ousmane Dembele a ‘better player than Neymar,’ says Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu ahead of Manchester United match

Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele is now a better player than Neymar, according to the man who signed him, Josep Bartomeu.

The Barca president oversaw Neymar’s £198m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, with Dembele arriving from Borussia Dortmund shortly afterwards for £135m and Philippe Coutinho joining the club from Liverpool in January 2018 for £142m.

Bartomeu signed Dembele for £135m in August 2017 shortly after selling Neymar to PSG

Both players are adequate replacements, says Bartomeu.

“I explained that we have a project with Dembele and Coutinho with Neymar’s money,’ he told Spanish television channel TVE.

“Dembele’s level is better now than Neymar’s, he’s a much better player than Neymar and he’s already adapted.”

The Camp Nou supremo was also full of praise for former Liverpool star Coutinho, who has been linked with a move away from Barcelona recently.

However, it appears the 26-year-old Brazil international is going nowhere.

“Coutinho is a great player, excellent, he’s getting better and better,” he added.

Lionel Messi is fit to play, having suffered a facial injury in the first leg in a clash with Chris Smalling. The forward was rested for Saturday’s goalless draw at bottom club, Huesca.

Barca lead 1-0 from the first leg and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will use United’s dramatic turnaround in the previous round against PSG as inspiration.

Liverpool agree price reduction with Porto for Champions League quarter-final second leg tickets

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Porto to ensure cheaper ticket prices for travelling supporters for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final next month.

The Reds will take on the Portuguese side at home on April 9 before playing the reverse fixture at the Estadio do Dragao the following week hoping to book their place in the final four.

Liverpool ran riot when they visited Porto in last season’s Champions League

Away tickets for the match in Portugal were initially set at £73 (€85), but after issues over high costs when the two met in the round of 16 a year ago, the club have worked with their opponents and UEFA to agree a new price of £52 (€60).

This is €15 less than the tickets were for last season’s meeting at the Estadio do Dragao.

“Liverpool would like to thank FC Porto for working with the club on a pricing structure,” a club statement read.

“Fellow Champions League clubs are also continuing to work with UEFA to negotiate the fairest ticket prices for their fans throughout the competition.

“The dialogue regarding a price cap on tickets for away fans will also continue.

“Until such a cap is agreed, Liverpool will continue to work with the opposition and UEFA to discuss the most reasonable ways of reducing costs for travelling supporters.”

This is not the first time Champions League ticket prices have been in the news this week.

It was confirmed a couple of days ago that Barcelona are charging Manchester United supporters £102 per ticket for their clash at Camp Nou next month.

United responded by charging Barcelona supporters the same amount for a seat at Old Trafford for the reverse fixture, with the club using funds raised from this increased price to subsidise United’s travelling supporters.

A United statement read: “In this instance we believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club.

Thierry Henry vs Sergio Aguero: Arsenal legend over Manchester City goal machine because he smells better, says Danny Murphy

Sergio Aguero or Thierry Henry?

That’s what talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast were asking on Sunday morning after watching Aguero score goal no.228 for Manchester City.

The striker scored in the 2-0 win and now has the same number of goals Henry scored for Arsenal during an eight-year stint with the north London club that saw him win two Premier League titles and two FA Cups between 1999 and 2007.

And speaking to talkSPORT, former Liverpool, Tottenham and Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy thinks the fragrant Frenchman wins any poll.

“I’ve played against them both many times and I can give you a reason why Henry is ahead for me.

“Thierry smells so much better,” he joked.

“On a serious note, though, it’s his presence [on the pitch] alone because if you asked a centre half who they’d rather play against, I think they’d always rather play against Aguero.”

Aguero has now scored 228 goals for Man City, the same number Henry put away for Arsenal

Aguero has now scored 228 goals for Man City, the same number Henry put away for Arsenal

The Argentina international, who will be 31 in June, is now in his eighth season in England but has reached the goal haul in 43 fewer games than Henry managed at Arsenal.

Aguero still has fewer Premier League goals, however, but is on course to overtake him if he continues scoring at the same rate. Henry hit 175 for the Gunners while Aguero currently has 162.

And Sports Breakfast host Tony Cascarino disagreed with Murphy’s opinion.

“If I needed a goal, I’d choose Aguero. There’s more in Henry as in technique and pace. He’s not quite as prolific as Aguero, but if I ever had to win a game – someone who in a moment could make a difference – I’d pick Aguero.

“He can [score] with his head, both feet and his work-rate has become far higher in recent years and is still leading the line at Man City in his early 30s.”

The Manchester City forward is currently leading the way with 19 Premier League goals this season ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Harry Kane, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah who all have 17.

Wolves captain Conor Coady tells talkSPORT keeping FA Cup hero Raul Jimenez will be a ‘big thing’ for the club

Wolves captain Conor Coady desperately hopes Raul Jimenez will make his loan switch from Benfica permanent.

The Portuguese striker has been in stunning form this term, most recently notching a goal and an assist during the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Manchester United, the latest giant killing of a remarkable season.

His fine goalscoring record in the Premier League has propelled Wolves to seventh, and reports suggest the club will try to sign him for £30million this summer.

The 27-year-old has previously declared his desire to stay at Molineux beyond this season.

“I’d like to stay at Wolves. I’m very happy,” he told Marca Claro.

“A major project was created at Wolverhampton. It’s not normal for a newly-promoted Premier League team to be fighting for a place in the Europa League.”

And Coady believes it would be massive for the club if they could secure the striker’s services on a permanent basis, hailing his telepathic relationship with Diogo Jota.

“They’re incredible footballers, they run their socks off for the team every week and you know how much it means to them,” he told talkSPORT.

“The way they link up together and the relationship they’ve got at the minute is fantastic.

“Looking at it from the position I play, it’s just brilliant to watch.

“It would be good if we could keep hold of Raul, it really would. It feels like he’s been at the club for a long time and we want to keep him there for as long as possible.

“The clubs will come to a decision and he’ll come to a decision, I think to keep him would be a big thing for the football club. But we’ll see.”

Wolves find themselves in the semi-finals of the FA Cup following a run which has seen them dump both Liverpool and Manchester United out of the competition.

And during a season which has also seen victories over Chelsea and Tottenham in the league, Coady insists the defeat of the Red Devils on Saturday has been the highlight so far.

“It’s the best,” he added. “In the Cup, anything can happen. Manchester United are an incredible football club with fantastic players and a brilliant manager.

“It was a special night for everybody, the atmosphere for building up for the last few weeks has been brilliant and we’d felt it all week.

But United are pulling out the race for Sancho, according to reports.

ESPN FC say United will pursue alternative targets after failing to engage in constructive discussions with Dortmund over a deal for the teenager.

The German club would understandably be reluctant to sell another of their most prized assets following the departure of Christian Pulisic to Chelsea.

It would take a bid of between £80-90million before Dortmund would even consider selling Sancho.

The Red Devils are understood to be reluctant to part with such a large transfer fee on a player with just two full seasons of senior football to his name.
